This Buchanan Reproduction notebook is bound in real tartan cloth. It has 176 pages and has stained edges and a matching elastic enclosure. The notebook has a ribbon-marker and an inner note holder. It has a booklet about tartan, and a Clan Map of Scotland. It also comes with a bookmark with a history of the tartan. The Buchanan clan is one of Scotland’s oldest Highland clans.
The clan settled east of Loch Lomond and are traditionally associated with this land, but the story of where the clan came from is debated and is perhaps one of myth and supposition. One long-told story is labelled the ‘Irish Prince Origin myth’. That story says that Anselan O Kyan, from Ulster, helped King Malcolm II in 1016 in fighting Viking raiders and was gifted land as a reward.
However, the Clan Buchanan state on their website that DNA work has established that the origins of the clan date long before to the start of the Bronze age 2500 BCE, with the arrival of ancient Proto Celtic people, possibly to Wales. The website states the people were then identified as being in Kintyre, west Scotland, and later Argyll around 300 BCE – 350 C.E (AD).
The P-Celtic people are thought to have spoken an ancient language distinct from that of other Celtic peoples. The language had different phonetic sounds. As such, the P-Celtic languages are said to be ancient languages of Gaul (France – around the Loire) and Celtic Britain.
