Thou Shalt Not Stand Idly By (inbunden, eng)

The inspiring story of how one woman forged a series of unprecedented partnerships across national, tribal, and religious boundaries to impact an overwhelming crisis against near impossible odds.

“Blessed are the peacemakers and blessed is Georgette Bennett.

In this fascinating and well-written book, she describes her dogged efforts to help those devastated by conflict and search for ways to bring people of differing faiths together. The stories she tells are an important reminder that we could all do more to try to make the world a better place.”

In Thou Shalt Not Stand Idly By, Georgette Bennett tells the personal story of how she confronted one of the greatest humanitarian crises of our time—the Syrian civil war—and refused to remain a bystander.

When millions of Syrians were displaced and entire cities destroyed, she stepped forward—not as a diplomat, but as a determined private citizen.

She founded the Multifaith Alliance and built unprecedented partnerships across religious and national divides, bringing together Syrians and Israelis, Jews and Muslims, military officials and philanthropists to deliver lifesaving aid in the middle of a war zone.

This is a firsthand account of persistence, moral courage, and strategic bridge building.

Bennett reveals the behind-the-scenes negotiations, risks, setbacks, and breakthroughs that mobilized hundreds of millions of dollars in humanitarian relief—often in places where formal diplomacy could not operate.

Now reissued with a powerful new Afterword, this edition brings the story up to date.

As refugee crises expand beyond Syria, global aid structures contract, and polarization deepens worldwide, Bennett examines what humanitarian diplomacy can—and cannot—accomplish in today’s volatile environment. The lessons extend far beyond the Middle East.

At a time when displacement, sectarian conflict, and refugee policy dominate global headlines, Thou Shalt Not Stand Idly By asks a pressing question:

When faced with human suffering, will we retreat—or will we act?
